Opry Honors Dolly Parton Ahead of Her 80th Birthday with Star-Studded Tribute

Country music icon Dolly Parton is set to celebrate her 80th birthday on Monday, January 19. While the beloved singer chose to keep her milestone low-key due to recent health concerns, her musical family at the Grand Ole Opry made sure the occasion didn’t go unnoticed.

The “Opry Goes Dolly” tribute show brought together some of country’s brightest stars, including Vince Gill, Lainey Wilson, Rhonda Vincent, and Mark Wills. These artists lit up the stage with heartfelt performances of Dolly’s greatest hits, paying tribute to her incredible legacy.

Though Parton herself was unable to attend the celebration in person, she appeared via video message to thank the performers and the audience. “Opry family, I just wanted to say how much it means to me that you’re all coming together again this year to celebrate my big ol’ birthday with some of my songs,” she shared warmly. “Some of my favorite memories happened right here on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. I wish I could be there in person, but I’ll be sending you all my love for sure. So, you have the best night ever!”

Parton became a member of the Opry in 1969, and her influence and presence have remained strong ever since. While she marked this birthday privately, her spirit was undeniably felt throughout the evening.

Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson’s Duet Steals the Show

Arguably the most emotional highlight of the night came when Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson joined forces for a powerful duet. After each performing solo sets, they united at the end of the show to deliver two of Dolly’s most iconic songs.

First, they performed “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” originally released by Dolly in 1977 and recently reimagined by a group including Lainey, Reba McEntire, Queen Latifah, and Miley Cyrus. Their rendition was tender, hopeful, and deeply moving.

The evening concluded with a stirring rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” a timeless ballad first released by Parton in 1974. Vince Gill had previously recorded a duet version with Dolly in 1995, which went on to earn a Grammy nomination and win the CMA Vocal Event of the Year. On Saturday night, Gill and Wilson’s harmonies captivated the audience, creating a performance that many described as worthy of the legend herself.

Fans in attendance shared their emotional reactions online, calling the performance a perfect tribute to Dolly’s enduring impact on country music.
